Abstract

After painting realism in my earlier years and semi impressionistic art, I have been experimenting with abstract expressionistic style. I like the textures that are created with a palette knife and different materials for mixed media collages. One of the materials I use extensively is paint that dries up too quickly. I recycle and harvest it by peeling it off the palette to save it for later. I won first place for my entry "Palette Leftovers" at the Pease Gallery in Charlotte. My work called "Are You Talking To Me I, II, III" was displayed at the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte in the exhibit called Counting Up. This is in reference to the ballot of each citizens vote being counted no matter the color of their skin or their socio economic background. In the series called Under the Sea, I like the free flow of fluid acrylics paints that can be manipulated as they flow and mix with layers of different colors.
