Community Supported Art

Door Series

Thanks to Arts and Science Council of Charlotte for choosing my work for the Community Supported Arts Grant 2020. My Theme is Doors. Root of the English word Door lies in the Sanskrit word Dwar. Metaphorically, a door or window is used as an entrance to another world - a symbol of opportunity or one of imprisonment. What is hiding behind a closed door? Something unknown, something mysterious, the stories they tell historically and the secrets they hide. A door may be keeping something sacred inside with guardians watching from outside. You knock on a locked door to gain entry, or turn a special key to unlock it, or perhaps a secret code or slipping a "baksheesh" to the door keeper will get you access.

I printed my photos on copy paper tore to give it rough edges applied them to canvas and continued the image on canvas with acrylics.
Each door is architecturally different some are historical of old ancient palaces fortresses temples and havelis as well as simple abodes. They are from all over the world.

All images are Mixed Media and 8”x10”
